Thanks, America. Isn't this climate change thing played out by now?

Well, spring is right around the corner in this 13th year of the new millennium, and boy, does it smell fresh?  Like the back of the refrigerator kind of fresh.  A new study published in this months issue of the journal Science reaffirms the science community's general consensus of a warming trend in the Earth's atmosphere, and further pins it on the activities of human civilization, especially over the last century.  The study concludes that, although we aren't necessarily in the warmest period of our current geological epoch, the Holocene, we are trending toward reaching the warmest point within the next 87 years, or by 2100.  Now that may not seem like much of an abrupt, cataclysmic event that we, zombie obsessed, asteroid-addicted post-apocalyptians get a rise off of, but from a scientific stand point, our kids are fubar.  The scientist essentially concluded that, it isn't necessarily the fact projections point to a 1 - 11 (F) degree average global temp increase by that time that will melt our skins off, but that such a change in a relatively short time - the typical 1 degree fluctuation in this epoch takes thousands of years - might pose problems for our ability to adapt, let alone every other ecosystem we rely upon.

I can see it now:  "Geez, Franky, its hotter than the topside of Mama's recliner cushion out there.  Get inside that Wally Mart in suck up some o dat cool breeze for ya melt down into some good fry oil and i start sizzlin up pork rinds in your sweet lardy residue"

Please, I know I know, our culture is making some headway toward sustainability and a shift toward responsible energy use.  Green is the new Gold, it's hip and trendy and marketable.  Celebrities have embraced it, look at our pal, Heath:

Thank you, Mr. Ledger, for raising awareness toward a trend that, in terms of popular culture, mustn't stop trending.  Although this image is being used posthumously, the message is clear enough, and if it isn't, the Joke is on us.
